NSU’s Dr. Md. Firoz Khan Receives Renowned International Gold Medal Award
Porikroma Desk: Esteemed scientist and Associate Professor at North South University, Dr. Md. Firoz Khan, was honored with the “Dr. M.A. Wazed Miah International Gold Medal Award-2022” on 3rd October. The ceremony took place at the National Press Club, courtesy of the “Dr. M.A. Wazed Miah Memorial Foundation,” celebrating Dr. Khan’s achievements in the “Scientist” category.
Leading a research group at NSU, Dr. Khan specializes in aerosol studies, exploring their impact on climate, air quality, human health, and heat waves. His groundbreaking work, supported by funded projects and theses, has garnered significant recognition across Asia.
Dr. Firoz secured his Ph.D. from Yokohama National University, Japan, in 2010, backed by the Monbukagakusho scholarship. Additionally, he holds an M.Sc. from the University of Birmingham, UK, and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka. Prior to his current position, Dr. Khan contributed as a senior lecturer at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and as a Visiting Professor at China University of Mining and Technology.
Dr. Md. Firoz Khan, an Associate Editor for journals including Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene and the Arabian Journal of Geosciences, has authored over 115 peer-reviewed articles and guest-edited multiple journals. He’s also the creator of the “Chemometrics in Air Pollution” course on Future Learn and has mentored over 70 students. With involvement in 20+ research grants from leading environmental research bodies, this award highlights his significant contributions to environmental science and academia.
